It has reached surface that Academic Decathlon is at risk for not being an elective choice at Moniteau. We will still be able to compete but the preparation is going to be extremely different and difficult. Please sign your name to recognize how academic decathlon is an intestive study course and should be a class and not just a club. This was my first year on Moniteau’s Academic Decathlon team and already it has taught be so much and has genuinely changed my life. Not having it as an elective class would be detrimental to the team and would be absolutely devastating.
As an alumni with 3 nationals under the belt we need this elective. It prepares students for future opportunities and jobs. It also fosters a family
As a former decathlon member I can attest to the beneficial skills and knowledge that this program provides. The amount of time and dedication these kids devote to learning the material, preparing speeches, and practicing can not be limited to the time alloted as a club. Having decathlon as an elective class is necessary to the ongoing success of the program.
With not having advanced class in the district this program pushes kids who do not get that challenge daily and get rewarded at the same time. I pray this is able to stay. We have went to several competitions and they are great.
These kids need a class that challenges them. Decathlon is just as important as baseball football etc. these kids work with their minds and represent the school through hard work and determination just as any athlete would. They should not make this a club. It needs to be kept as a class.
My daughter Marissa is on this team and she is extremely upset over this as am I.

Academic Decathlon has taught me so many life skills I use to this very day including, but not limited to, being interviewed, public speaking, studying skills, and time management. Without this program, I would not be the person I am today.
