Imminent development is threatening one of the last natural open-spaces in lower Millard Cyn. The property at risk currently serves a crucial watershed, wildlife corridor and is bisected by a blue line stream that is home to many sensitive species. The proposed development will cut into a 50% slope within the Altadena hillside ordinance area.Three mature Oaks will be removed, three Oaks will be severely pruned and the remaining Oaks permanently damaged by encroaching into their protected zones.
Heavy construction equipment, trucks and material deliveries will choke traffic on Canyon crest and possibly block fire, para-medic and police access to the meadows neighborhood for over a year.
The proposed ultra modern four level design is not at all in keeping with the early to mid-century neighborhood and towers over adjacent homes blocking views and invading privacy.
If this project is approved it will open the floodgates for even more construction on the few remaining natural open-spaces left in our canyon.
We the undersigned demand that the county of LA does not approve a request for a minor conditional use permit and we also reject the request for a Oak tree permit for project No.R2014-02411-(5) please contact Kristina Kulczycki @ (213) 974-6435 or [email protected] by march 22nd 2016 to voice your concerns and objections.

Reaching this point in our fight feels like a small win in a very long battle. I am exhausted by the constant uphill climb but seeing this level of momentum keeps me focused on the trees we are trying to save.

Developing on hillsides poses a high risk of erosion and landslides. And these homes would be in an area prone to wildfires. With the severe drought this region faces, we need trees and habitat more than ever to maintain a healthy ecosystem. Please deny this development!
We need to leave this land alone. Enough development has occurred, and severe pressure on watershed systems could be disastrous by the mid century mark. Los Angeles is clearly #1 in the nation regarding stressed water systems. That's not an opinion ... it's a researched fact.
Impossible to believe that the zoning commission would let an ultra modern four level home be built blocking views and invading privacy and being out of keeping with the area.
Building such a house will have long term, severe access impact into the Meadows which has no alternate access in an emergency. There are already completed houses in the Meadows area that are for sale. Even a remodel/rebuild of one of these would have less of an impact on the area
As a young adult, I hiked & camped at Millard Canyon. Now my son & his Boy Scout Troop are hiking & camping at this same location. Let's leave the land to our children. The land is much more valuable as natural open space, than it is as a glorified tract housing subdivision.
The slippery slope will be activated if this moves forward. Precedent will be sent, and the mountainside will change. Wildlife are already struggling from human encroachment. Buy an existing home.

The proposed project violates Altadena Community Standards, Hillside Management, and Oak tree Protection Statutes! What does it take to STOP this type of unwanted, out of place development in this area?
