Dear Town Board Members and Planning Board Members,

We, the undersigned residents of Malta are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed plan to clear 400 feet of forested area on Dunning Street (between the “log cabin” house and the Partridge Drum circle) in order to relocate a state police station into a residential neighborhood of Luther Forest.

As concerned citizens, we believe that this relocation will have a detrimental impact on our environment and community. The clearing of the forested area will not only destroy the natural habitat of numerous species of animals and plants but also contribute to deforestation and climate change.

Moreover, the construction of the police station, parking lot and increased traffic will also lead to increased noise and air pollution, and traffic congestion, thus impacting the quality of life in our neighborhood.

Furthermore, this location is not appropriate for a state police station due to its proximity to residential areas and the crossing over the bike and walking path. It will not only be a disturbance to the residents but also affect the peaceful co-existence of the community.

10 years ago, the town of Malta turned down building a fire station on the same property for the same reasons. (It was moved to its current location next to Bentley's Tavern). Nothing has changed since then.

We are not opposed to keeping the state police station in Malta, just not at the expense of the last forested area to the Luther Forest neighborhoods.

We, therefore, urge you to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative locations for the state police station that will not have such a negative impact on the environment and community.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
