We believe that the Brixton community needs an FE college and not a free school. We think there is a huge need locally for further education, but we have enough school places already in Brixton and any schools placed where they aren’t needed will damage local schools by competing for students and draining precious resources. We call on the Trinity Free School to withdraw their plans for the Lambeth College, Brixton Hill site.

I just looked at the total and honestly my head is spinning a bit because I never thought this many people would actually jump on board to protect the college site. It feels like the neighborhood is finally saying what we have all been thinking in our kitchens and on the bus for months now.

As a university lecturer I am acutely aware of the value of FE colleges in preparing students for their future lives. There is a huge need in Brixton in particular for FE support for young people who may have left school without good qualifications.

Having taught a number of students at university from Lambeth College who would never have made it were it not for the excellent efforts of teachers at Lambeth College I'd strongly urge that the College's provision in the area be not just maintained but expanded. We don't want yet another potentially dubious free school.

Removing FE provision from Brixton when youth unemployment is over 1m is a shocking decision which we must fight on every level

Education should be about meeting the needs of the local community. This dictates Brixton should have an FE college. If the free school plan prevails it will be a victory for a misguided ideology over local democracy and community

Lambeth College in Brixton does a wonderful job of providing educational opportunities for a diverse group of students, including those with learning difficulties or mental health problems. Brixton does not need yet another free school.

The closing of Lambeth College's Brixton site would be detrimental to the local community, particularly the vulnerable groups which the site serves: ESOL learners, learners with learner difficulties and young people not in employment or education.

it is not just young people who need the opportunitiy to find new directions through education - especially when senior citizens will be expected to remain in work until they are 68. An new FE college should have been the only development option

Lambeth College has had a history of providing adult literacy courses and second chance education for adults. This is much needed.
