PROTECT POST 16 EDUCATION
CCC has decided to replace SFC contracts with Further Education (FE) contracts for all new starters at the SFC beginning this September. Initially, CCC also planned to freeze the pay of existing NEU members for three years. While CCC has since withdrawn the pay freeze, it continues to push for a reduction in staff terms and conditions.
The colleges that make up CCC have diverse and successful histories, each with its own strong educational ethos. SFC has always championed this ethos, creating an environment that gives young people in North London the best chance to succeed.
Cuts to the curriculum—such as reduced Guided Learning Hours (GLHs)—and to vital frontline services like counselling are seriously harming students’ learning experiences.
We the undersigned call on the management and governance of Capital City College( CCC) to
- Respect and uphold the SFC terms and conditions for both new and existing staff.
- Honour the National Bargaining Agreement.
- Stop and reverse cutting of essential services that support students’ educational journeys.
- Pay all staff a fair and decent wage.
- Offer permanent contracts to Hourly Paid Lecturers (HPLs) and Hourly Paid Support staff (HPSs).

An attack on staff employment terms and conditions is an attack on the whole college.
These are false economies which will be to the detriment of students. It is time to give more support to students by giving them a happy, well-paid, well cared for workforce and properly funding education, rather than management just thinking like accountants and treating staff and students as just numbers in a spreadsheet or ledger. It is counterproductive.
This is a mean-spirited attack on pay and conditions. We need to value staff in our sector.
Meanwhile the board of governers include those linked to Big Data and Private Equity...
Teachers deserve decent pay and conditions to ensure a decent education for students
For democratically accountable community education
They should raise the level of FE pay to SFC.
