it is not just young people who need the opportunitiy to find new directions through education - especially when senior citizens will be expected to remain in work until they are 68. An new FE college should have been the only development option

Lambeth College has had a history of providing adult literacy courses and second chance education for adults. This is much needed.

As a university lecturer I am acutely aware of the value of FE colleges in preparing students for their future lives. There is a huge need in Brixton in particular for FE support for young people who may have left school without good qualifications.

There is no such thing as a free school - the local community will be paying in many ways. Local authorities should not abrogate responsiblility for education - not for any group within the community.

I used to love going to this college for 'special interest' courses. I then enjoyed using the skills learnt for the benefit of family and friends. There are many aspects to learning and education in improving the quality of life within a community, and the college could/should be a powerhouse for this.

Older people need facilities for learning new skills even more now that the retirement age has increased and a knowledge of ever-changing new technology is essential in the workplace. The powers-that-be at the college claimed that it was under-used, but that was a self-fulfilling thing - if you keep reducing the courses available to the people who want them, of course there won't be take up.

Lambeth's young people are the future of the borough and deserve a decent education. Stop selling off resources which should be used to provide that education, not to further this government's lamentable educational philosophy - farm it out and take no responsibliity. There is no such thing as a free "free school"

As someone who is working on an arts, education, learning and wellbeing programme in Brixton Prison and with communitiy groups in and around Lambeth this closure would be a travesity for those adults who rely on such colleges to access routes to new life skills, life chances and future volunteering and paid work opportunities. SAVE the college and millions of pounds in the long run...

This college has served Brixton and its environs well for ages now, why decide to sell it off? It's madness! This government is selling off colleges, libraries, adult education piece by poece and we need to stand up and fight for these invaluable resources. The government creates recommendations about "wellbeing", creates grants "growing communities" and says its for "lifelong learning"...well prove it! Amazing places like Lambeth College are already in existence providing all of these things!!! New is not always best. We need to value what we have, renew existing infrastructures, not demolish them. Regeneration is becoming a dirty word: at whose cost????
