This petition was started in hopes of keeping Kuwae alive.

Kuwae Preschool is a non-profit organization located on U.S. military base (Camp Lester) on Okinawa, Japan. It has enriched the lives of countless military families and has fostered community relations with local schools through their unique culture program. Kuwae Preschool recently "closed its doors" due to a decision that was made by the current director and business manager. It was only voted on by the executive board consisting of three members. There was no meeting open to the general members and no vote sent out to all of the members (which includes every parent with a child attending Kuwae Preschool) as directed by the by-laws. This school has benefitted thousands of students. It’s given them a developmentally appropriate place to learn and grow, in a way that a child development center simply cannot. Thousands more should have the opportunity to experience this interactive, culturally diverse, and NAEYC accredited school. Please sign this petition to help keep Kuwae open for future generations. Almost sixty years of excellence and community relations should not end due to a building issue.

クワエプリスクールはNPO法人で沖縄県本島中部の北谷町に所在する米軍施設キャンプレスター内に位置している幼児教育機関です。多くの在沖米国人家庭の地域交流に重要な役割をはたしてきたクワエプリスクールが閉園するという大きな事件が起きています。

クワエプリスクールの閉園は、園長・ビジネスマネージャー及び3名のボード（学校役員）による会議で決められたとのことです。この決定手続きは、クワエプリスクール運営規程に違反したものです、規程では閉園等の重要な問題は全ての園児の保護者の参加が認められた会議での多数決を得なければならないこととされています。　しかし今回の決定は保護者への何の説明もなく、また会議への呼びかけもないまま、いきなり閉園が発表されたのです。

私たちには、クワエプリスクールの存続は必要と考えています。基地内にはCDC（保育所）はあるものの、幼児教育カリキュラムを有し、地域文化交流を取り入れている幼児教育機関はクワエプリスクールしかありません。この為、私たちは未来をになう幼児のために、クワエプリスクールの存続は不可欠なものと考えています。

また園児の保護者もクワエプリスクールの活動に参加することで地域への理解を深めています。さらに、クワエプリスクールは米国の幼児教育診査機関NAEYC（全米乳幼児教育協会）の厳しい基準をパスし、適切な教育水準を維持していると認定されています。　クワエプリスクールはこれまで約60年の歴史を有し、多くの卒園者を出し児童教育の向上と地域文化交流の懸け橋としての役割を果たしてきました。

私たちは、このような他の機関（保育所）ではできない重要な役割を果たしているクワエプリスクールが建物の老朽化を理由に、しかも誤った手続きで閉園されることに反対し、正式な手続きによる話し合いがもたれ、その存続が実現できるよう希望します。
