Attention Fort Greene neighbors and fellow dog parents,

Our beloved Clermont dog run (between Willoughby and Dekalb) has once again been shut down! As the only completely fenced in dog-friendly area anywhere in the neighborhood, this run has become a vital resource for local residents, some of whom have been taking their dogs here for many, many years.

This unofficial space has served us well. But following an uncertain few months during which the dog run was locked on numerous occasions – including this latest closure – we have decided that it is time to turn this area into an official NYC dog park!

We know that the NYC Parks Department is concerned about maintenance and the necessary labor that goes along with it. Therefore, our power lies in our collective commitment to take care of this resource. This petition demonstrates that there is overwhelming demand for this dog park and a real willingness from local residents to help maintain it once it is made official.

The more signatures we can secure, the more likely we are to succeed in winning back our slice of puppy paradise. So please share this petition widely! All Fort Greene dog parents as well as general community members are encouraged to sign. Thank you so much for your support, and more soon!

There are NO official dog runs in Clinton Hill and Ft Greene. This was an awesome solution, and now we have to take our dog to Underwood Park at strange hours. I fear it's more likely to have rat poison so we really don't have any options currently. HELP!

This dog run is so valuable to the neighborhood. The closest dog runs to this location are Von King (1.4 miles) or Dumbo (1.6 miles). Between the hours of 9am and 9pm there are no places for dogs to run for literally miles around!

Hi, we use this dog run often and would be happy to sign up for a regular slot to take care of the run. I think a simple signup form online would be easy for residents to manage. The run is very low maintenance. The kids at the school love watching the dogs play, too!

With no other 24/7 areas for a dog to run, making this location official would be a huge boon to the neighborhood. It could also alleviate pressure on Ft Greene Park's off leash hours, allowing folks an alternative during midday hours.

My dog Chuckie looks forward to the dog run each day. This is a safe place for him to socialize with other pups and play fetch. Whenever we pass he pulls me to go in and is instantly disappointed when we can’t. Please support us in reopening this dog run!

I would bring my dog for a run and play and my kids would go to the public playground. Right now none of us go to that public park any more. Very sad! I will volunteer time and resources to keep it clean and orderly! Please reopen!

I’m getting a dog early next year after just moving to Brooklyn and am disappointed there are no dog runs within walking distance.
