This is a seminal moment in the government's failure to exploit Ireland's potential as a film & TV producer despite the massive growth of this lucrative market. We should be a multi-billion euro exporter instead of just a location for historic films.
Film base was cheap because it wasn't there to make a profit, but probably had overheads like other businesses. It is a nesscessity for people who do not have the backing of an investor, need a space for art or photography, to learn about film making, to rent equipment and much more....
FilmBase is a fundamental and essential facility for Irish film makers.
We need to support places like this , I’m all for it staying !

Filmbase was a massive part of my film education and life back in the early 2000s when I was first getting into film. I was lucky enough to take part in the FilmBase/RTE Short film awards back in 2000, my directing debut, 'Crossed Lines' and the support, help & advice I received was amazing. Filmbase represents a cultural and creative need in not only the Irish film & tv industry but also in the artistic life of Dublin too. Let’s fight to keep it open.
