During April 2011 plans will be submitted to Hertsmere council to build a privately run (for profit) 83 person resident care home facility on the paddock – the field opposite Revelely lodge - at the top of Caldecote gardens leading onto Elstree road. The field is being sold for approx £4,000,000. These are the reasons why we need to fight this: This plot is the last piece of the original Bushey Heath We do not want to lose this green space Reveley lodge and land was bequeathed to the Bushey museum trust by Mrs Violet Chewett to be used for “wholly charitable purposes”. Not a private care home! The value of local properties could be affected. One sale has already fallen through. Local agents are suggesting that during the building work (which will take around 18 months) house sales will be impossible Traffic congestion already exists at the top of the road this will be worsened as only 29 parking spaces are being provided within the home. Where will the additional spaces be found to accommodate visitors and staff? (There will be approximately 40 staff at any one time). Caldecote gardens is already used as a cut through from Little Bushey Lane and the extra traffic created by the proposed care home will add significantly to the congestion at the junction of Caldecote gardens and Elstree road. Ambulance sirens during the night, 24 hour lighting, additional noise and cooking smells will disturb the local neighbours. Finally and very sadly Reveley Lodge will no longer be able to hold large public events (garden party) as they will no longer have parking available. This will reduce the range of activities at the lodge.
