The Council are proposing to build a new equestrian centre at the site in Shooters Hill Road. This is to continue with the Olympic Legacy after the equestrian arena in Greenwich Park which will take place in 2012.

But at what cost? 'Bit by bit we are losing our land'. Greenwich Council have given Hadlow College permission to run their equestrian centre at this site. It is proposed that horse riding will take place in Oxleas Wood and this would have a severe impact to the environment and the people who use it. Also this means that there would be many who would not be able to use this extravagant facility. To view the plans and the work that will take place visit www.greenwich.gov.uk Planning application number 11/1765/F.

There are many reasons why we as a community should protect our land, especially at the Shooters Hill site as this is within Metropolitan Open Land and designated as a Nature Reserve and a site of Nature Conservation Importance. Therefore, this site should be protected from such development. We must pull together to stop such planning applications being passed through when it is at the expense of losing our open spaces. It is not just important to have an ‘Olympic Legacy’ in the borough but to have green spaces for our children and their children and for future generations to enjoy in the future.

Please sign our petition and leave the first line of your address in the comment box. This is so Greenwich Council believe these are real people against this planned proposal.

Remember, each individual has a right to voice their opinion, voice yours here!

Thank you for all your help and support.

SE18. Oxleas is one of the only nice places left to walk the dog. Leave it alone! We have enough buildings already.
