Charlie’s social club has been offered a commercial lease by NMAHS which they cannot afford, and so they have no other option but to CLOSE Charlies Bar.
Charlie’s social club has been operating for 42 years as a place for QEII staff to socialise with colleagues, network, hold meetings, quiz nights, de-stress after a hard day/week’s work. This staff facility helps boost staff morale, mental health and makes staff feel valued.

Please don't close Charlie's Social Club. It's an important place for the QEII community to gather and interact. Also please consider that this will most impact young students and staff who cannot afford any other options in the local area.
I agree it will be a shame if this place closes up. I go there often with my lab and helps to discuss science and network in a relaxed manner and is really close to the lab, so frankly a shame that it closes up.
Charlie's Bar has provided an essential service to all occupants of the QEII campus, which cannot be replaced by offsite commercial venues or ad hoc events. A venue for staff to congregate, commiserate and congratulate is vital. 42 years of member support should be recognised!
Charlie's bar has a very special place in my heart, as both the start of my nursing career and many of the promotions and advances in careers were celebrated there. The social club is vital to QEII and the positive staff culture that's recently suffered.
The social club is all part of having a positive community and culture here at Charlies. The club rooms and bar are important for fundraising, quiz nights, Christmas functions as well as health and wellness programmes such as yoga, pilates to bring our community together outside work.
I understand there are heavy costs for NMHS after the past troubles it's had but there is also a cost to shutting down a service like this and I feel that cost will be great.
Access for staff to unwind after a hard days work with other colleagues.

Another disincentive for talented people to work here. The bar represents more than a place for staff to causally gather ... it is a sign of a workplace that cares. It's a beacon for staff morale. Please don't hasten our move to a depressed, mediocre institution.
