Bournemouth Borough Council has officially committed to prohibiting badger culls on local land in favor of vaccination efforts. This victory belongs to the residents who maintained their focus on humane alternatives throughout this process. This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of Bourneouth Borough Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.
The object of the petition is to ensure that Bournemouth Borough Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.
We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").
To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the Bournemouth Borough Council area.

The scientific concerns regarding the proposed culls remain central to our efforts as I continue to correspond with local officials. We are pressing the council to prioritize vaccination over lethal methods while maintaining our focus on the protection of local wildlife.

The number of signatories is nearing one hundred individuals who reside or work within the borough. Please alert your local colleagues to this initiative so we may reach this threshold before we present our request to the council.

Please do not permit this unnecessary slaughter within your borough. The last was a fiasco - and do you want to hear the screams of agony as the DEFRA people 'humanely' destroy the badgers. It's totally ineffective and cruel.
Rather than kill badgers; if farmers followed hygiene rules then bTB in cattle would fall dramatically as cattle are 70% responsible for inter cattle infections according to DEFRA We do not kill humans with TB so vaccinate badgers.
I was living in Bournemouth until a few months ago and am likely to move back at some point and don't agree with my taxes being spent on the needless pointless slaughter of these animals. I don't agree with the theoretical link between cattle and badgers but even if it were proved then vaccination is the way forward.
Councillors should use their contact with local MPs to push for vaccination to become government policy, because as it stands, a badger could be vaccinated then immediately go out and get shot. Vaccinated badgers are indistinguishable from the rest.
I visit the bournemout area every year, primarily to study badger behaviour. I have been doing this with my family for many years. By decimating this wonderful source of enjoyment for myself and many others, and remove a valuable source of income for your many hotels, restaurants, camping sites etc
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO STOP OUR WILDLIFE OF WHICH THEY ARE WILL BE NO MORE THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY TO HELP THE FARMERS AND TO KEEP OUR WILDLIFE
The cruel cull trials highlighted that this does not work and in fact spreads the disease. It is limited by the control of cattle movement and vaccination of cattle and badgers. An enormous waste of public money and unspeakably cruel.

Wales have just reduced BTb slaughter by 33% in a year WITHOUT culling badgers. Bio-security WILL work if it's enforced and vaccinating badgers will prevent pertubation and keep costs down as no policing required. Culling will never work and is horrendously expensive and divisive and a total waste of police resources.
