This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.

The object of the petition is to ensure that Weymouth & Portland Borough Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.

We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the Weymouth & Portland Borough Council area.

For details of badger petitions in other parts of England, please contact B-R-A-V-E http://www.b-r-a-v-e.co.uk

We, the undersigned, call on Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

I have been reading through your messages and I am moved by how many of you care about our local wildlife. It is genuinely humbling to see people coming together like this when I honestly expected only a few neighbors to notice.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately. This progress belongs entirely to the people who took the time to speak up for our local wildlife.

The trial culls so far have been disastrous and if anything spread BTB. This can only be effectively controlled by the control of cattle movement and vaccination of cattle and badgers. The cull is a cruel waste of public money and contravenes the laws protecting wild animals.

The cull is more likely to drive badgers across the countryside increasing risks unlike a more sensible approach.

please do not conform to this unnecessary badger cull. As Ireland have shown, there are more successful and humane ways of controlling bovine t.b.

Cull will disrupt Dorset badly. It is unscientific, inhumane and huge waste of taxpayers' money.
