This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of Waverley Borough Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.
The object of the petition is to ensure that Waverley Borough Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.
We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

We, the undersigned, call on Waverley Borough Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

I am currently corresponding with local representatives to clarify their specific stance on the vaccination alternatives for the badger population. Evidence continues to mount that non-lethal methods are both scientifically sound and ethically preferable.

The momentum behind this petition highlights a collective desire to protect the badger population within our borough. This response confirms that our community expects responsible alternatives to the current culling policy.

The cull has failed nationally and has made those who organised it a laughingstock. What on earth do you think you will achieve by repeating this farce? Do not do it; do not do it in my name.
All the trials achieved was to prove that they aren't a credible method. Vaccination would have been chaeper and better.

I love to see the badgers in the garden here...they are amazing to see; nature at it's best for me!
The trials were a farce and a failure. Vaccination would have been a cheaper and better/ tax-payer friendly response.
When at least one councillor on the UKIP opposition benches at Waverley Borough Council wants to bring back Fox Hunting to include hounds mauling the Fox again then I fear there is little hope of this petition being listened to. I am appalled by this Government's pandering to second homers in the so called Countryside Aliiance and other Pro Blood Sport organisations while many Dairy Farmers - including my Ex's Family Dairy Farm in Awliscombe, East Devon acknowledge that the Badger Cull is simply ineffective and ideologist. Is it not time Britain joined the 21st Century and stopped these ancient barbaric practices?

This is unnecessary, cruel, ineffective and expensive. Public money must NOT be wasted in this way.
