Tomorrow, June 14 2016, Thirsty And Miserable's tiny patio will be reviewed at a city council meeting. The city of Toronto has denied us a sidewalk permit as the sidewalk space we occupy exceeds the minimum required clearance. We know you love our patio. People who have never even stepped foot in the bar sit on this patio all day long. This patio has been a Baldwin St. staple for years. Sign and show your support!

I just looked at the screen and saw 250 signatures which is wild because I honestly thought this would just be me and maybe five friends complaining into the void (it is just such a good patio though). Seriously keep telling people because the council needs to know this matters to more than just the regulars who sit there every single afternoon.

The count is creeping up toward that hundred mark and honestly my hands are shaking a bit because I really think people are finally realizing how much we lose if they tear those tables down. Just imagine how lonely the street will look without that crowd there so please just get this in front of anyone else who needs to see it right now.

Seeing the count tick up like this is honestly wild but we are not quite at that two hundred fifty mark yet so keep the momentum moving. I really need you all to grab someone else who loves this spot and get them to sign because the city heads are watching this tally right now.

I have enjoyed this patio many times. I love this bar because it's a simple honest small business, and woman owned to boot! I regularly walk along This street and have never seen the patio as an obstruction either.
This patio has existed for years, any new requirements should grandfather the existing patio spaces. This is a designated heritage/tourist area, not all rules should need applied to the letter.
There are stores that take up way more space on the sidewalk with vegetables and such that do not have a licence. This postage-stamp sized patio is not an issue!
Have the members of city council taken a step inside Kensington in the last...decade?! T&M's patio is the last thing I have to sidestep when walking the sidewalks. If they're not going to clear the rest of the market, don't touch the patio!
It's absurd that this small, reputable and locally-owned business should be hobbled by such arbitrary technicalities. The tiny patio in question is completely unobtrusive and in no way does it interfere with traffic or the business of its neighbours. Indeed, it only adds to the social and friendly atmosphere of the community.
Please be nice. It's summer. We don't get much of it.
I will visit Kensington Market from out of town for the experience of Thirsty and Miserable. Won't you please leave them alone?

If you want to make people REALLY miserable, remove the patio from T&M. If a desired outcome of Kensington Market is to have people experience the unique sights, sounds and smells of Kensington, why confine patrons to the indoors, especially in the summertime? This is counterintuitive.
