We the undersigned, are against Kirklees Labour Council decision to Close Almondbury Library at Stocks Walk. The library is situated in the heart of the local community and in a historic Carnegie building that has been there 113 years. There are many other activities that take place here, which will be badly effected and this proposal is against the wishes of local residents wishes as well as the Almondbury Library Friends Association.

Petition created by Almondbury Ward Councillor Bernard McGuin

I have been meeting with the local groups who use our library space to document how this closure would dismantle our neighborhood hub. The council keeps dodging my requests for a formal review of these plans but their silence only proves how much they fear our collective resolve.

Seeing this level of support for a building that has held our community together for over a century is deeply moving. It is clear that the people of Almondbury refuse to let this historic piece of our heritage disappear without a fight.

I grew up in Almondbury and the library was a vital part of my childhood. It is a treasure that must be preserved and protected.

I have read many of the comments by other library users and totally agree with their views. We campaigned to save the library ten years ago and people's opinions will be just as strong now as they were then! The library will not be used as it is now if it moves to the Sure Start Centre as it is not central to the village and does not have the character of the current building.

Please fight to save this lovely Carnegie library in the village of Almondbury that was donated to the people of the village. There are many activities that happen here all run by ALFA and I fear this thriving community hub will be lost forever if the proposed move to Surestart goes ahead.

Will isolate this end of the village. The library is in an area that should be protected, along with the church and Pub.

Essential service for readers students local historians and those with no access to a computer

Almondbury library is a valuable asset to the local community and closing it would mean fanilies with young children, some of whom rely on public transport to travel into town having to make the costly journey just to use a library whilst council tax increases with every budget the Kirklees Labour Party bring out. This closure clearly doesn’t represent a good deal for Almondbury residents

Another ridiculous Kirklees idea!! Where do they come up with them?? Really lovely library that needs to stay where it is!!
