Redcar and Cleveland Council have issued this statement on their website about the tearooms:

Saltburn Valley Garden Tea Room - Customer Notice

A feasibility study has been undertaken on behalf of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to determine the future viability of Saltburn Valley Garden Tea Room. As a result of this study, it has been decided that the Tea Room will close at the end of the summer season to enable a full service review to be undertaken. Upon completion of the review, a business opportunity will be put out to open tender for the running of the Tea Room in conjunction with the Woodland centre, to open in the Spring.

The Tea rooms will close for the Winter Season from Friday 4th November 2011.

Thank you for your custom and support over the past 3 years.

If you would like to submit your views about the future of the Tea rooms, please do so in writing to; Carole Dodd, Acting Head of Adult Services, Seafield House, Kirkleatham Street, Redcar. TS10 1SP.

The feasibility study was conducted at the beginning of 2011 and there is no guarantee the tea rooms will re-open. We feel that closing the tea rooms is a contradiction to the R&CBC stated aims of promoting Saltburn as a visitor destination building on its present day and historic strengths. Please show your support by writing to Carole Dodd at the address above as well signing this petition. Your comments regarding the value of keeping the tea room open would be most welcome.

Thank you.

I have submitted a formal request to the council office to obtain the full text of the feasibility study. My next objective is to organize a meeting with the relevant department heads to clarify the specific criteria for the upcoming tender process.

Total madness. They spend all this money trying to attract tourists then shut down the best spots. Sort it out.

Used to come here with my late wife every Sunday. It is a vital part of the community and people count on it being there.

This place is the heart of the valley. Walking the dog without a stop for a cuppa just wont be the same. Keep it open!

Ridiculous decision. We need this space.

My kids love coming here after the park. Why ruin a good thing that actually brings people into the town?

The council is so out of touch with what locals actually want. Leave the tea rooms alone for once!
