Brecon Beacons National Park Authority are proposing the closures of information centres on Libanus and at the waterfalls in 2016 . This is due to a reduction in funding. It is Proposed that the tea rooms in Libanus will stay open
Health and safety of visitor's will be impacted
I believe that the closures are very short sighted and they will certainly affect visitors of the national park and employees. The closures will mean there will be no information available for visitors on the park and its history and heritage , the shops that sell essentials books, maps, local produce and crafts will close affecting many small local businesses and nearly a dozen staff will loose their jobs ( that many have held for over 20 years )
The park authority will not meet their own statutory purposes and duty that states they are to help visitors enjoy and understand the park, it will also impact the local community and economy as the visitors centre helps attract over 170,000 visitors plus school visits each year.
The proposed plan is to use the Visitors Centre as an office yet to do this it would have to be converted and this cost has not yet been calculated.
Loss of income for the park authority due to room bookings, car parks, education classes and events and of course the shop closure which takes thousands of pounds a week.
The health of the surrounding enviroment may be impacted due to the lack of contact with knowledgeable staff to help advise visitors on its use. Education of the park will be severely impacted. This is unacceptable.

Seeing one hundred people come together to protect these centers is overwhelming. My heart is heavy thinking about the staff losing their livelihoods after decades of work but this support gives me genuine hope that the authority will finally listen.

We are approaching the one thousand signature mark and hitting that threshold will force the board to acknowledge the scale of our opposition. Please get this link in front of anyone you know who values the history and safety of our park. The authorities are watching these numbers and we need to show them exactly how many people refuse to let these centers disappear.

Seeing the count climb toward one hundred signatures reminds me how much this park means to so many of us who have spent years getting to know these trails and staff. Please send the link to a few people today so we can hit this milestone and show the park authority that we are not going to be quiet about these jobs.

these centres are vital to visitors coming to this area , without them there will be a lack of information and support , we have found them vital in the past , closing them would be short sighted and counter productive to the local and national economy.
at a time when wales are actively promoting our heritage and history attracting tourist they are proposing to close the visitors centre at libanus and waterfalls this vital provision has to be subsidised by WG if required to continue operating
It would be such a loss to the brecon beacons to lose the mountain centre that provides accessable services to local people and tourists. I am a member of the local mountain rescue team and have often used the mountain centre on call outs and training.
People like to discover things about our country side and like to talk to a human being machines are not a replacement and they can prove worthless if they breakdown and they do! Let's not loose the people who bring tourism to our country side
The statutary duty of BBNP Authority is to protect the natural beauty of the Park, to help visitors enjoy and understand it; and to foster the wellbeing of local people. How does closing visitor centres enhance the delivery of any of these duties?
cannot believe this is being done, all my friends and family go there when they visit.
I have been visiting the centre at Libanus since I was a baby and continue to take my children there. Please don't close such a valuable and useful centre for visitors to the park.

Every National Park needs a Visitor Centre; it is essential to the tourist industry which brings vital money into the wider economy! I live in Bristol byt travelled to Brecon and visited the Centre first to understand where to go & what to do!
