Sefton Council have proposed that for cost saving purposes they will consider the closure of the Aviary, Fernery and Nursery Shop at Botanic Gardens and the Conservatory at Hesketh Park in Southport. This is a petition against the proposal and by signing it you are requesting that these facilities continue to be available to the public and remain open. Sign to save our beautiful parks! We need as many signatures as we can to make our council understand that this action is not acceptable. Sefton Council will announce the decision March 1st 2012, so please ensure you sign prior to this date and spread the word to other people who may be affected!

The massive surge in support proves that locals refuse to let Sefton Council strip our heritage for their pathetic budget cuts. These bureaucrats thought we would stay silent while they gutted our parks but this momentum shows exactly how wrong they are.

Having recently spent the weekend visiting my sister in southport, we had a really enjoyable walk around hesketh park , I was really impressed with southport having such a nice place for locals to spend time, especially the conservatory, which had plants both to admire , and for sale, would be a great shame to see something like this close down, when so much money is wasted on other trivial things, David wright, Whitchurch Shropshire.

We should be protecting our local tourist attraction's from cuts like this... Financial Cuts should start at the top, that's where the big savings are to made, on high salary directors and managers who tend to do very little work for the amount of wages they get paid... get rid of these highly paid pen pusher's!!

It is a terrible shame the fernery is closed. I've been twice now, there isn't even a sign to say when it is open.

The council is absolutely clueless. They keep chipping away at what makes this town decent and then wonder why people go elsewhere. Absolute joke.
