The City of Fort Lauderdale is in the process of updating the current Historic District Ordinance in Sailboat Bend. These changes will impose further hardship on property owners and increase costs to improve properties.
We, the undersigned residents of the Sailboat Bend neighborhood, Fort Lauderdale, Florida strongly oppose any changes to the Unified Land Development Regulations (ULDR) relating to the Sailboat Bend Historic District. We request no further action be taken on this matter until which time the platform for Public Hearings can be in person. Virtual meetings are not a fair environment for Public Hearings on critical issues. We request that the City take no further action with regard to the proposed update.

The city officials continue to push these virtual meetings while ignoring our calls for in-person testimony. Send an email to your commissioner today demanding that they halt any further updates until we can meet face to face. Text the link to three neighbors so they know what is happening to our property rights.

The specifics of this plan are murky at best. Preservation of the historic integrity of SBB is something all of us want, but several aspects of achieving and support that goal have not been well explained to the residents. Until we can have a more unified and cooperative approach to this endeavor, we need to halt the progression the ULDR.
Postpone any changes until thorough and comprehensive, post-pandemic in-person discussions with the residents and homeowners of Sailboat Bend once again are possible.
We as Home Owners in Sailboat Bend have carried an unfair cost burden to maintain our properties while have the most depressed values in Ft Lauderdale’s downtown due to the restrictions.
I'm disappointed that our City representatives feel the need to rush forward with the proposed, more restrictive, changes to the current ordinance given that so many affected property owners are against it.
I strongly oppose any changes to the UDLR and respectively request said proposed changes be denied. To make the changes without full participation from the property owners from Sailboat Bend is not fair or in the best interest of our community during this time of COVID, thanks.

Preserve those structures that their owners want to preserve. Allow the rest to develop or redevelop without so many restrictions and delays. ULD requirements already guide development. This wonderful area and great location seems very seedy in some areas full of shot gun apartments that owners wont redevelop or sell because of the restrictions. Other neighborhoods near downtown have redeveloped beautifully. Not Sailboat Bend.

Living in an historic home already restricts a homeowners decision making freedoms...we don't need to make it more difficult for them by taking taking those limitations even further.
