I am a resident of the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood. I understand that the owner and developers of 314 Bay St. want to change the zoning of that property from R1A residential to B2 business in order to open a retail establishment or restaurant there. I am against the changing of the zoning from R1A to B2.

The Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood is a residential neighborhood and needs to remain that way in order to protect the character of the neighborhood as being mainly single family homes, a school and churches, and to protect the values of our homes, which many of us have worked extremely hard to renovate and restore. There is no need for a retail establishment or restaurant in the neighborhood, as these same services are provided in the nearby downtown district, and the several retail establishments and a grocery store immediately surrounding the neighborhood.

I support the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood Association in opposing the rezoning of 314 Bay St. from R1A to B2 zoning and I ask that the City Council deny the rezoning request and allow 314 Bay St. to remain zoned R1A.

Our neighborhood is unique BECAUSE it is residential with easy access - just a few blocks' walk - to commercial establishments. It is that area - already properly zoned for businesses or commercial purposes - that would welcome a new restaurant. Rezoning in this historic neighborhood would be detrimental to the individual homeowners and the neighborhood as a whole. Please deny the request to rezone 314 Bay Street or any part of the historic neighborhood so many of our residents have worked so many years to maintain.

As 40 year resident of the HHN, I can tell you a lot of effort went into stopping the business enchroachment on our main neighborhood thoroughfare. I would hate to see us lose what many of us worked so hard to achieve. We should not be having to fight this battle all over again

I live at 701 Southern Ave in historic downtown and absolutely do NOT want rezoning that would allow businesses in our neighborhood!

I absolutely oppose the rezoning of this site. It should be cleared as it is a blight on the neighborhood. I live at 511 Bay St. and bought the house 4 years ago because Bay St. was zoned R1A. The rezoning will destroy my property value and reduce the historic value of the street.

What I don’t understand is why this city makes us address this issue continually after ruling this property residential.

I live at 802 Elizabeth Ave; I strongly oppose rezoning of 314 Bay Street. When will this matter be resolved for good? Why do we have to revisit this every six months to a year or so?
