safety in Montrose schools
I, Rosemary Wagner, and my friend Sabrina Slaughter, had some thoughts and ideas regarding the security at Montrose High School and other schools here. We understand that there are so many different factors in what we would like to see happen, but we also think that we should try to do something. We’ve seen people across the country trying to arm teachers, but we know that a lot of teachers and students, along with some parents, wouldn’t feel comfortable with that. What we’re proposing, is to add some type of armed security guards within the schools. We think that having the guards be retired veterans with previous firearm experience would add comfort and safety along with having the guards take frequent psyche evaluations. Being students ourselves, we would want these people to not look intimidating, for example, not wearing a uniform and concealing their weapons. If we had a few spread out across the school, possibly at all of the entrances and exits, we feel that not only could it prevent or stop serious threats, but also keep more minor problems like ditching and bullying, under control. If the school had these people also seen at school activities outside of school hours, we think students, faculty, and parents would grow to have trust with the guards. As for finding retired veterans, we are contacting organizations.
