We, the students and families of Eugene Ashley High School, respectfully request a review of the current dismissal and parking lot procedures due to increasing congestion and safety concerns.

Since students who hold silver permits were moved to the back lot, there has been a noticeable increase in traffic volume in that area. Combined with the growing number of student drivers, this change has intensified congestion, created bottlenecks at exits, and raised safety concerns for both drivers and pedestrians during dismissal.

While we understand that parking adjustments are sometimes necessary, the decision to move silver permit holders to the back lot does not appear to accomplish the goal of increasing safety for students and staff.

We respectfully ask that administration review and consider the following:

  • Traffic patterns in the back lot following the relocation of silver permit parking
  • The overall increase in student drivers and its impact on dismissal congestion
  • Bottlenecks caused by limited exit points
  • The impact of releasing all students at the same time
  • The possibility of implementing a staggered dismissal schedule
  • The potential rebalancing of parking by returning some or all silver permits to the front lot to better distribute traffic flow
  • Clearer accommodations for early dismissal and late arrival students so they may enter and exit without confusion during the normal bell schedule
  • Increased staff presence during dismissal to help guide traffic safely

Our goal is not to criticize, but to collaborate on practical, school-level solutions that improve safety, organization, and efficiency for everyone.

We respectfully ask that these concerns be reviewed and addressed to ensure a safer and more balanced dismissal process for all Ashley students, parents, and faculty.

The dismissal protocol at Ashley high school is extremely dangerous. Not a single driver has more than two years experience behind the wheel of a 4000 pound vehicle, the return on investment for some basic coordination could be life-saving.

Taking 30-40minutes to get out of the back parking lot in insane. Fully agree that there should be adults monitoring and aiding pedestrians from the young drivers. TIA

Dismissal is utter chaos…kids are all parking in a lot that is difficult to get out of Haliburton and student parking needs a 3 way stop sign or traffic control officer. Youth sports using the field should be required to use Haliburton lot until 5pm…they and their kids shouldn’t le parking and unloading on access road during dismissal. Maybe consider using side lot by Anderson for parent pick up to keep them separated from student parking and adding to the congestion.

My daughter dismisses at 11:45am so she is not affected this semester but when both of my children did dismiss at 3:40pm, it was incredibly difficult to leave the back parking lot as they do not have the right-of-way when exiting. I would like to suggest administration attempt to leave from the back lot to experience the process first hand and work collectively with the students to find a better and safer solution.

As the mother of a newly licensed driver at Ashley high school, I would appreciate the administration taking another look at this new policy. Dismissal from the back of the school has always been an issue with numerous accidents. This news policy just adds an additional number of students trying to exit the complex from one exit point.

Consolidating all students to one parking lot has not solved the issue of chaos while leaving after the school day, it has in reality concentrated it into on area.
