Amazing news to report tonight.....Karsten Anderson, Red Wing Superintendent, delivered news to our family and friends in person that the Red Wing High School athletic field would indeed be renamed to dedicate the field to Russ Marshall!!! It will be made official at 7 AM on Friday, June 5, 2015.
It has not even been 24 hours since this initiative was announced on Facebook and we have over 1,100 signatures from the online petition, over 350 online messages/emails, and an athletic field dedicated to this man that touched more lives than our family could have imagined.
THANK YOU to everyone who showed support in one way or another. Although we no longer need to petition, the thoughts, memories, "Marshall-ism's, and good thoughts are always welcome on either thehttp://www.ipetitions.com/peti…/russ-marshall-memorial-field site, the email account ([email protected]), cards, or phone calls. There are no words to express how much our family, and my dad, appreciate your encouragement. As you can imagine, he just wishes he was stronger to be able to thank everyone in person.

Former students and athletes of longtime Red Wing teacher and coach Russ "Cougar" Marshall, along with your families and fellow Winger fans, are pursuing the goal to have the Red Wing High School athletic field named in his honor.
Russ Marshall has been battling pancreatic cancer and will soon be cheering on the Wingers from the "best seats in the house". He has impacted the lives of thousands of students, families, athletes, and community members.
Russ Marshall taught physical education, health, German, and driver's education from 1970 to 2003. He coached football, baseball, basketball, and softball from 1970 to 2011 at the junior and senior high school levels, highlighted by 41 years as a football coach.
Please show your love and support by signing the petition to your show support for Russ Marshall. Help us to encourage and inspire the Red Wing School Board to approve the name change of RWHS athletic field to 'Russ Marshall Memorial Field' to honor and recognize this wonderful man and his 41 years of dedicated service to Red Wing.

He was a great coach and taught all of his athletes how to work together and to have passion in the things you love. I will always remember when he would see some of us standing around he'd yell "Quite scratching your bananas!"
I've known Russ for years and Red Wing has never had a better teacher and coach. He was tough, but fair. I also played softball against and with Russ for a long time. Being a teammate was a lot more fun than being an opponent! Wonderful guy!
Great man, great coach. He's shown a lot of dedication to the Red Wing community throughout the years. He gave me the nickname 'Milt' years ago during football, most Red Wing friends still call me that to this day, almost 10 years later.
I have had the great fortune to have known Mr. Marshall since I was small. I had him as a teacher, knew him as my friend Molly's dad, and saw him and his family each week at church. He is a passionate and caring person who sees the best in everyone. He is well deserving of this honor.
Coach Marshall is the best football coach I've had throughout middle school and high school. He taught me about integrity, hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and dedication. As officer of the armed forces today, I see what he taught all of us reflected in the Air Force core values.
An honor to know this man.
A great coach and an even better human being.

Russ is one of a kind! Russ Marshall Memorial Field is a perfect tribute to him and the perfect match for what we want to instill in our youth -character, & strength, mixed with a great sense of humor & love of life.
