We are concerned for the safety of pedestrians crossing Junction Road - the junction of Maynard Road and Rumbridge Street/High Street in Totton. This is an extremely busy junction with cars coming from multiple directions and often in a fast speed in a rush to avoid stopping at the train crossing. Visibility of approaching vehicles is limited due to parked cars, buildings and blind corners. Pedestrians are forced to wait for long periods of time before attempting to cross, and often are forced to take further risks by crossing and waiting in the middle of the road, posing significant risk of being knocked down whilst trying to cross.

Recently there has been an increase in pedestrians with the opening of Totton Hub - offices for Hampshire County Council and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. Members of the public who use this building are most vulnerable members of our community.

Therefore we are requesting that the New Forest District Council make urgent assessment and action to improve pedestrian safety at this crossing. We are requesting that action is done before winter in which darker afternoon/evenings and cold/icy weather will further increase the risk of road safety considerably, and we fear will have dire consequences.
