As a Richmond resident, I was frustrated and disappointed to see Reva Trammel use a public social networking site to spread historically hurtful messages of discrimination and bigotry. For those who may not be aware, Ms. Trammell proudly posted a “mammie” figurine which represents the legitimatization of chattel slavery and racial oppression. Given she is a public servant this type of thinking and behavior should not be tolerated in 2020. In order to move our city forward we need an inclusive, thoughtful, culturally sensitive Councilmember who can represent the interests of citizens’ with ethnic diversity. Her post was intentionally racist and should not be tolerated. Understanding the traumatizing role this negative stereotype elicits will require a more culturally sensitive and self aware leader. Ms. Trammel clearly falls short in these character traits

given the racist items are displayed in her home. Consequently this shows that she is comfortable and proud in her antiquated divisive beliefs in spite of being a stakeholder of a predominantly black district. For these reasons I am calling for her resignation.

Sincerely,

RVA 8th district Resident
