The Highland Heartbeat Centre was opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2005.The bulk of the £1.1 million (approx) needed to fund this was raised by public and local businesses donations.The British Heart Foundation also made a substantial contribution.Our heartfelt thanks to them.The centre was purpose built as The Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit and includes office space,2 consulting rooms for physiotherapy,a seminar room,a waiting / recreation area and an adjoining gymnasium. The building was structurally strengthened to allow further building above the unit which is now the case. NHS Highland want to use this area for other than Cardiac Rehab which would be moved elsewhere, WITHOUT on site gymnasium facilities.Once again this unit was designed and built with the specific purpose of housing Cardiac Rehabilitation.

The Heartbeat Rehab.Centre at Raigmore Hospital was paramount in helping me to recover post major Heart Surgery and a Cardiac Arrest 3 months later.Closing or down sizing this unit would be detrimental to helping Patients recover successfully.
This service is a vital part of recovery. I'm almost finished my 10 programme at the Heartbeat unit and I can honestly say it has regained my confidence and independence so soon after my cardiac problem.
Having been involved in fund raising for this venue .i feel very strongly that this must be kept for Patients eith heart disease as it provides san essential service
This proposal by HHB to move the highland heartbeat centre off site is a betrayal of all the work and effort of the fundraisers and staff over many years. This is the core of cardiac rehabilitation in the highlands and staff and patients throughout the region benefit from the specialist facilities there.
It is so important that this facility built using donations stays open and provides this much needed facility in Inverness. I had cardiac surgery in Edinburgh nearly a year ago and it has really brought peace of mind to know there is a local facility close by.
I feel it is important not to abuse public donations in this way.
Living with a faulty heart is not easy. It can affect so many areas of our bodies physically and the psychological toll is immeasurable. The Highland Heartbeat Centre plays a vital role in enabling us to have support, advice, educational, clinical, and physical needs met to encompass us all under its protective umbrella. Closing it will be like having the proverbial rug pulled from beneath us with catastrophic results.

What right does the management of the NHS have to switch this facility to a different user group? Especially considering the majority of the funding for this much needed Centre was raised by the public. Surely this needs further discussion and compromise?
