Coach Colton Wager is a 2013 graduate of New Diana High School. He returned to New Diana ISD as Head Boys’ Basketball and Cross Country Coach in 2021. Coach Wager left a head coaching position where his team had just won the district championship. He returned “home” to turn around a struggling program. Since Coach Wager’s return, both girls and boys cross country teams have qualified for Regionals (2022) and Boys’ Basketball finished 3rd in district, Bi-District Runner-Up, and #1 Defensive Team in the district (2023). Without discussion between Coach Wager, administrators, and the school board, Coach Wager was told to resign or he would be reassigned due to disagreeing with the Athletic Director on workouts.

During a time where finding and keeping quality teachers and coaches is near impossible, why are we in this position? Coach Wager has developed an atmosphere of hard work and dedication. His athletes respect his authority and WANT to play for him.

This is not the first time ND Administration has put a teacher/coach in this position. They must be stopped. New Diana ISD needs the dedication and heart of Coach Wager.

We are gaining real momentum but we need to pass the one hundred signature mark to get the board to notice. Take sixty seconds right now to text three people in the district and tell them to sign this petition.

Absolutely egregious decision to move from Coach Wager - for a program that has historically been in the bottom of the barrel, insane move to “reassign” a successful coach and alumni

I played for coach Wager the last 2 seasons and he cares about his players and athletes. I was one of the senior leaders this past year and we made history. We need to keep him

Anyone in the coaching world understands that training is extremely sport specific. The idea that an athletic director doesn't know that is mind-blowing. As someone who both works in this industry and knows Wager personally, he is a well-trained coach who wants nothing but the best for the kids he's training.

I don’t play sports but one thing is sure that coach WAGER was a sharp turn for the New Diana Eagles. He has much love for his athletics-and program he was creating, therefore, even those who had him in P.E where happy by the way they where treated while wager was on duty.

I have never met some who has worked harder or dedicated more time to the game of basketball than Colton Wager. Not only did he turn the program around last year, he also affected kids lives forever in a positive manner. Future kids need coaches like Colton Wager, the school would be remiss to not retain him.

Why would you ask an ND Alum who has proven himself by turning around a struggling program? What are you teaching by getting rid of people who do not do things they way you do? Diversity of thought brings better solutions. How can you be a leader if you get rid of those that don’t agree?

There are repercussions for not doing your job. You can't just decide not to show up for assigned duties, call in after every game, & not do what your boss tells you to do. Those things have consequences for ANY employees. Coaches shouldn't be above the expectations of every other employee in the district.
