We, the undersigned, petition the Cohoes City School District, Superintendent Robert Libby, and the Cohoes Board of Education to keep Daniel Hytko as the Girls’ Varsity Head Basketball coach for the 2014-2015 school year, and beyond.
We feel he is the best person for the job. He has been a successful coach for the Cohoes Girls’ Varsity basketball since 1998, and was the Cohoes Boys’ Varsity Basketball coach from 1987-1998. He also coached at HVCC for 15 years. He has the experience, knowledge and rapport with his players and their parents.

The steady growth of this petition demonstrates a profound appreciation for the leadership Daniel Hytko provides to our student athletes. I am encouraged to see so many individuals publicly affirm his long tenure and professional impact on the basketball program.

Coach Hytko is a legend in this town. Why mess with something that isnt broken? Keep him right where he belongs.
A group of us will meeting with Morgan at the school board meeting on July 9. We will be meeting at the Middle School at 5:45 pm. Please come to show your support for Coach Hytko. Please pass the word along
This really upsets me! Not only is he an amazing coach, he will do ANYTHING for his basketball girls. Thanks to Hytko I had an amazing time playing on the basketball team, and I wouldn't have asked for any other coach. He has so much knowledge for this sport and doesn't make anyone feel left out. He always makes sure everyone has an understanding of whats going on. If you wouldn't get it or had some troubles he would take the time to make sure you knew. He just doesn't see us as student athletes , or even just a team, he treats us like family on and off the court, we are a family. It would be the worst decision CHS has ever made to let go of not only an amazing coach, but a great person.
Katie Smith I agree with what you said. I had the privilege to play for Coach Hytko all through high school and as an 8th grader when I played on the JV level. He's got more knowledge and experience than anyone I know. He's a great guy not only as a coach but a great mentor to everyone. He is one of a kind and the board should be able to see this. He should not be replaced. The school and the teams that he ands coached over the years have gained so much he has a great repetition. It would just be wrong if he was removed and replaced as head coach.
Why would the board NOT keep him as the coach? What's the debate about...help someone who is completely out of the loop understand why this petition is neccesary?
I first met Danny Hytko while still in grade school. It was behind Keveny Memorial Academy on a dirt lot where there was a basket ball hoop. He'd play there with Tim Ryan who went on to play for Villanova as I recall. I was athletic myself but when I shot hoops with them I knew they were in a different league. The caliber of their play was well beyond my skill level. It was therefore no surprise that Danny excelled over others taller than he and secured a very enviable but justified spot on the Cohoes High Varsity Basketball team. I can still remember hearing his name mentioned on the nightly sports news. I thought maybe he'd go on to some career with fond memories of his High School days much as we all do. Over the years, however, I heard mention of him pursuing a coaching career. I then realized that basketball was more than an athletic expression for him. It was in fact his life. He was dedicated to it. His dedication did not come without cost and opposition. Despite his detractors Danny was no quitter. If he wasn't permitted to coach in one place he'd find another, and so he did. In the process he amassed an enviable resume. But a resume is not all there is to being a coach, because as a coach you not only teach basketball, you teach young minds about life. It's more than a commitment there is contribution as well. This Danny Hytko has delivered on in spades. Danny and I were part of the first graduating class of what was then the new High School. How will our Alma Mater, Cohoes High School, honor this man and his contribution? Can it be that all of the aforementioned is reducible to a bid process? If so then I am truly saddened, not for Danny (for his contributions will stand the test of time), but for Cohoes High and what it has lost.
Although I did not have the chance to have Mr. Hytko has a basketball coach when I attended CHS, I did have him as a softball coach. Mr. Hytko was not only a coach to us girls but a mentor as well. He not only taught us the fundamentals of the game he also taught us team commoradority as well. He never made anyone of us feel like we couldnt play the game or make us feel bad for losing a game. He was the type of coach to us that made us feel that as long as we played our hearts out and tried our best it was ok if we lost a game. He pushed us girls to always try our best. Some of my foundest memories at CHS where when I was playing on a field with my team. I could tell by watching his boys team as well when I attended CHS how much the game, the school and his team meant to him. It would be a shame for CHS to let go of such a wonderful coach. Mr. Hytko is defenitely a one of a kind coach and he would be extremely hard to replace. There is no coach out there like Coach Hytko.

My daughter has grown so much under his coaching. He actually cares about the girls and their future. This just makes no sense at all.
