We, the property owners and residents of the Rockland and East Fork neighborhood, hereby request that the East Fork Rock Creek campground be closed to overnight camping and designated day use only. The risk of catastrophic wildfire emanating from illegal campfires and fireworks of overnight campers, as well as the difficulty of an effective response by a fire department to a wildfire, and illegal activities mandate this request. In addition, the overnight camping has resulted in large amounts of human waste washing into the rock creek. Garbage and wide scale ATV riding in wetlands, the creek, and grazing areas is destroying the area. The current use of this site for camping and ATV use is a serious threat to the fish and public health.
We request that the campgrounds be closed to overnight camping and vehicles until the following issues are met:
1) Numbered campsites not to exceed 10 designated areas at least 50 feet away from the creek
2) Public restrooms at the two entry points
3) Trash receptacles at the two entry points
4) Only one road into the designated campsites. All other current trails and roads to be leveled and reseeded to native grasses
5) A minimum of $25 dollars per night fee.
6) An on-site camp host to collect the fees and monitor the campers for compliance to the rules.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people care about protecting our creek as much as I do. This momentum belongs entirely to the neighbors and local folks who decided that our home deserves better protection. Thank you for stepping up to make this happen.

I just recently (3 days ago) picked up beer bottles from the side of the road just above the upper campground. No regulations leads to irresponsible and disrespectful people coming (from out of town, I might add) to slop their stuff everywhere.
I’ve seen first hand how mistreated this area is. Our family owns the land all around it and people come in and trash it, are obnoxious, negligent, and absolutely disrespectful. I really wish they would just shut it down altogether.
I would also ask for a lower speed limit to and from the campgrounds. I had a brother almost get hit moving equipment, because they think it's fun to roller-coaster through the dip at our driveway.
Fire danger at the campground is a serious concern to the Volunteer Rockland Rural Fire District. The current method of management of these lands is irresponsible and unacceptable. The conditions of the roadway, the unmanaged placement of vehicles and camp trailers in high density, and the dangerous practices occurring at the campground make the area unsafe, unaccessible, and un-protectable for fire control. The Fire District cannot guarantee the safety of the public or nearby landowners while the campgrounds remain in this chaotic state. Mathers Farr RRFD Assistant Fire Chief
As someone who lives locally, we don’t not use this area due to it being overrun constantly with out of town campers. We have cleaned up shoes, beer cans, garbage, mattresses, etc. from this area. We love our home and mountains and want them to receive the respect and care they deserve.
This is where I grew up and we respected and took care of this wonderful area. It makes me sad to see what is being done to it now
2021Not only is there human poop, beer bottles, trash, and torn up roads but the drivers are often dangerous, fast and often drunk who drive down that road.

This area has been deteriorating every year. Drugs alcohol and firearms make it unsafe for families. The fire danger is real. The local volunteer fire and ambulance are overburdened by the amount of traffic now in this small area and the ingress and egress routes and the resultant emergency services requests.
