It is now the end of October and very little has been done. The bump tops have been minimally reduced in relative height, but retain the high-impact shape and continue to produce two sharp jolts on vehicles.
Although there is a need to address the issues with excessive speed of some vehicles in that lot, as well as drivers who create the risk of head-on collision by careening around the corners in the center of the lane instead of to the right, the “solution” that has been implemented seems to be ill-conceived, ineffective, and one that will only make matters worse by inducing driver frustration.
With this petition, we ask TPS to replace these speed bumps and implement more effective and less frustration-inducing measures.

The current level of support confirms that the concerns regarding vehicle damage are widespread rather than isolated incidents. I am currently drafting a formal letter to the Transportation and Parking Services director to request an immediate meeting to discuss a timeline for alternative speed control measures.

As a Prius driver I was relieved to hear that these ill-conceived speed 'bumps' were going to be removed and replaced with something more reasonable. After many weeks of no removal I was shocked to hear that a decision had been made that it would be too expensive to replace them. If T&P services had initially tested with a couple of them they would have been able to determine their unsuitability at less cost. But it's not OK to continue to cause damage to people's cars because of their poor planning. As other's have said, the attempt to shave the bumps down have done nothing to resolve the real problem, which is the abrupt steepness of the shape. It is additionally insulting that the revised decision was not announced to the UCSB community.
As the driver of a sports car with stiff suspension, I can tell you that the bumps are bone jarring at 1-2 mph. The attempt to grind down a few of them is a failure. The steepness of the curb is unchanged. One wonders how this concept was vetted before the go ahead to install.
The new speed bumps cause a more serious safety hazard than the speeding behavior they are intended to discourage. First, many drivers swerve around them and into parking spaces (particularly on the lower level) – causing unpredictable driving patterns that endanger both pedestrians and other vehicles. Second, a vehicle driving over the speed bumps even at low speeds causes the entire concrete floor to shudder with a noticeable amplitude, which over the long term could compromise the structural integrity of the parking garage. The speed bumps should be replaced with ones whose shape does not cause these intense impacts, or removed entirely.
In addition to being damaging to the cars, the bumps are probably also damaging to the parking structure. You can feel the structure vibrating when a car crosses over them.
On July 25 the acting director said they would remove the bumps. Then, in an e-mail exchange with me in late September, be backpedalled and said they weren't going to remove them (yet failed to announcence this to the community at large). Frustrating situation all around.
The speed bumps are a hazard for lowered cars. Please make them minimal at least.

Thanks so much for starting this petition. Each time I enter parking lot 10 and creep over those ridiculous bumps, I think what a horrible solution! It's so obviously bad! I think about how they effect my tire pressure, tire wear and tear, suspension, and wonder how such an ill conceived solution could have been approved. I suspect that the bumps were also installed to prevent skate boarders from using the parking structure as an amusement park (after hours). That might have contributed to the choice in design. But they are too severe for cars, and yes it's frustrating. Please remove them and find a better solution.
