Many of you may recall the joy and beauty that was the Culture Yard studio in Santa Cruz. It was a place of capoeira, dance, music, family and cultural expression. The three years it was in operation were full of good people from near and far, it hosted many teachers from different places and served the community alongside the many other houses of culture in our fine little city. After the last year's hiatus, it has the potential to reopen with significant renovations and improvements! There is another business who is vying for the spot, but it would be converted into office spaces. Boo, right? Let's band together and show the good men who built and own the place that we could bring more life and love and energy into the space!

This space creates a warm environment for the community to practice something they love, it reflects human connection and the diverse spirit that exists in Santa Cruz. There are plenty of office buildings but not many spaces that facilitate the joy of a community.
What a beautiful place to train! I miss it. It is a perfect, well-designed space to cultivate capoeira, dance and music. An office can go anywhere. Let's re-open Culture Yard! I'll come train regularly!

I used to practice capoeria here with teacher Micah. I have been practicing for two years now. The Culture Yard was the best space, it had a ton of room and so much light. The mural is beautiful.
This was an off-road crossroads of capoiera, Brazilian culture, dance, and community. Reconnected with friends from Brasil, Jamaica, Europe, and various US cities at Culture Yard events. Would be elated to see its revival!!
This community floor space was a very unique one. The energy that permiated this space was completely breathtaking. The painting of the ancestors in the amazon overlooking its guest was always a calming and reassuring reminder that you were in a safe place to express your inner movements. Long Live the Culture Yard! Support Human Culture and physical expression. Not office space! Bring in the ritual space!!! Axe meu irmao.

I am forever indebted to Culture Yard for giving me a place of solace during my tough times when I was in Santa Cruz. It has so much positive energy and attracts the best kind of people and events.
