Petition to the city council of Marengo Iowa:

This petition purpose is to show a vote of no confidence in the current Chief of Police Benjamin Gray by the residents of Marengo. Through his poor leadership, he has caused the mass exit of all experienced and dedicated local officers.

Selective enforcement of laws is also a major concern of the residents. Why are citations being issued for wrong way parking being given to residents in town while 2 semi-trucks have sat parked the wrong way continuously since the chief began working here but remain uncited for parking incorrectly.

The residents of Marengo would also like the city council to reinstate the requirement for the Chief of Police to live in the city of Marengo or within a reasonable distance to improve response time when duties require the chief respond to any on-call emergency situations.

A police chief cannot properly police a community of which he is not part of. It should be required anyone who is to be chief of police in Marengo Iowa should have to live within the immediate area to hold that position.

This petition is for:

The removal of Chief Ben Gray at the earliest possibility by termination or non-renewal of contract, as well as reinstatement of the requirement of living in or near Marengo to be able to hold the job of Chief of Police of Marengo.

I feel that a police officer that does not reside in the town he is sworn to protect, can’t protect it from afar.

He has been rude and pushy in every interaction I have had with him and after explicitly requesting for him not to come to my house to collect a statement and personally requested a fellow officer and he arrived anyway and was again pushy and rude no taking my statement and then leaving without giving me a police report for the theft that took place on my property

He violated my civil and constitutional rights on a bogus “noise complaint” in Grinnell.
