This petition calls for the reinstatement of the Mannington Chief of Police, Brian Stewart by a veto of the city council vote. We want this vote deemed null and void and the issue to be revisited when the stay home order is no longer in effect and the community as well as the Chief have the opportunity to be heard in an open and fair forum. This is intended not only for the residents of the City of Mannington, but other supporters that have businesses in town or do business with the city, who disagree with Council's decision to terminate our Chief and the manner in which it was conducted.

This petition is based on following:

Chief Stewart was not afforded the opportunity to fight for his job. He attended the online meeting but was not given the floor to dispute whatever causes were being leveled against him. He had the right to refuse the executive session and have this issue heard in a public forum before the members of the community and was denied that right by the city Council.

This action was instigated by the Mayor of Mannington, yet no one citizen was personally contacted by their Council representatives for comment or opinion. This action affects the safety of the community and our voices should have been heard.

Furthermore, "We the People" are words that remind us that our elected officials work for us. They are there to represent us. This does not give them permission or ultimate authority to make important decisions on our behalf without first allowing the community to voice their concerns, suggestions and input.

Please join us in signing this petition to remind the city government exactly who it is they work for.

I just refreshed the page and saw we hit two hundred and fifty signatures which honestly feels surreal because I was just sitting in my kitchen worrying that nobody would care about the secrecy behind this firing. It really hits home seeing so many people agree that Chief Stewart deserved a fair hearing instead of being pushed out like that in a Zoom meeting. I need to figure out how to get this printed and dropped off at City Hall because the momentum is getting too heavy to ignore.

The police chief should have the right to defend himself. This is a man with an upstanding career in Law enforcement, whos reasons for termination weren’t disclosed. I think he has a right to fair representation in this matter

Chief Stewart was a very well respected man in the community of Fairmont and was making tremendous headway in Mannington when his tenure there was cut short due to lies and he should be able to continue his duties to train the officer(s) that may need his guidance.

A lot of people in Mannington, are not going to comment or vote. They don't want to pay the consequences later with the mayor and the other officials!!!

We need more transparency, its a shame that people have to search Facebook and social media to get information on what was going on here. Citizens of Mannington deserve better than that, firing Chief Stewart like that, makes Mannington look bad, definitely not cool.

Proper procedure wasn't followed. Chief Stewart wasn't afforded the chance to defend himself against accusations that resulted in him being terminated.

That's what we want to know. He wanted a public forum and they denied him. We're asking this be revisited at an open meeting once the stay home is lifted and to reinstate him in the meantime.

Please reinstate this man and give him a fair and just oppertunity to defend his position.
