We are a Grass Roots organization asking for the Resignation or Termination of Columbia Missouri Police Chief Kenneth Burton.
Chief Burton has created a hostile working environment within the Columbia Missouri Police Department by not supporting Officers when they follow policies and procedures. His agendas follow that of a Tyrant, only to please a few and destroy anyone in his path.
He has been apart of terminating veteran Officers over the course of his tenure as a Chief at 3 agencies he has worked at to appease a few in hopes of gaining support by creating an anti-cop mentality. He has terminated 3 Officers only to have them re-instated with full back pay and benefits upon appeal.
As a Police Officer he resigned within 48 hours of HIS OWN judgement hearing stemming from Use of Excessive Force, which charges were sustained.
He resigned his First Chief of Police job after an outcry of Officers within his Department. These Officers complained to City Officials, who in turn began an inquiry.
He was Indicted by a Gran Jury in Texas under charges of Misuse of Position in relation to lying to a Motorcycle dealership to allow an Officer to get a discounted purchase, stating the item was for Police use.
Kenneth Burton is NOT the Chief of Police Columbia Missouri needs. We need a Chief that will support its Officers and not be influenced by a liberal media, or by a few with position or political influence in the community. The Good Men and Women of the Columbia Police Department, as well as residents of Columbia DESERVE a Chief that will put their Safety and needs before his own personal agenda.
The momentum behind this petition highlights the growing consensus that a change in leadership is necessary for the department. This level of engagement confirms that our concerns regarding the Chief's tenure are shared by many who value accountability and stability.

Total disaster for the department. Our officers deserve someone who actually has their back instead of looking for ways to fire them.

The track record speaks for itself. He was bad news at the other spots and he is bad news here. Get him out.

This guy is a joke. How does he keep getting hired anywhere? City needs to wake up and get rid of him.

Ridiculous that he is still in charge after everything that happened in Texas. We deserve better leadership in Columbia.
