The University of West Georgia has failed to adequately address the student athlete who adorned full blackface for Halloween 2015. In allowing this athlete to continue to represent the University as a West Georgia baseball player, the University endorses the perpetuation of racial stereotypes. This is extremely offensive and as an alumni I believe the University should really take these cries for equality into consideration.
This is NOT what I am paying for my son to have to deal with at UWG. This is not a "slap on the wrist" type offense. This is straight up racial insensitivity. This is completely ridiculous to be happening in 2015. I'm disgusted.
My son is a student at UWG. He also happens to be a black male. This behavior is totally inappropriate. As a person who has experienced racism and who's parents party if the civil rights movement believe it's acts such as this that let us know racism, discrimination, and insensitivity are still alive and well in our country.
He thought it was a joke and that is the problem. Our students should know better and there are consequences for the actions that they take.
As a student of the school, it disappoints me that action wasn't taken sooner by administration. This is a terrible representation of the UWG student body & I'm hoping that this will be resolved properly.
Martin Luther King didnt "die" he was murdered by a white man. And it wasnt for you!

We are taught in our institutions that this type of behavior is unacceptable. It is sickening that someone of the same institution, that teaches us in history books about this act, would attempt this type of foul play. Halloween or not it is NEVER ok.
