In recent events, Michael Weaver, Ross Bartlett and Mark Burmann were the instigators of a ‘Blackface’ incident, which was the cause of great social uproar. The University of Stellenbosch has announced their acceptance of the decision of the investigating team, to pass no disciplinary action against the aforementioned individuals.
We, the undersigned, are concerned individuals who urge the Stellebosch University leadership to ensure that the interests of all its students are upheld by implementing Disciplinary Action against the instigators of the 'blackface' incident on this campus. We call for either the suspension or alternatively
participation in community service as well as education by means
of a multi-culturalism courses.
This
incident affected a large number of Stellenbosch students, by implementing this motion
we would be encouraging the creation of an environment that encompasses true inclusivity and
diversity. This motion further practices sensitivity and consideration for the
students of this campus and further supports the great progress Stellenbosch University has made
thus far as an institution and the progress we have made as nation.
the university leadership is failing us. if there are no consequences then they are basically saying they are okay with it. very disappointed.
