This kids actions is deplorable, he exemplifies self hate, ignorance of which are negative traits and is counterproductive and are not the positive qualities we aspire to in our students and athletes.

This is NOT what I am paying for my son to have to deal with at UWG. This is not a "slap on the wrist" type offense. This is straight up racial insensitivity. This is completely ridiculous to be happening in 2015. I'm disgusted.

I am incredibly glad of the president's choice to directly address this student's actions, and to note WHY his actions were racist, wrong, and worthy of consequence. However, prior to this email he and the university had remained largely silent on the matter. In cases having to do with social injustice, to be silent is to be complicity which is where the endorsement of racial stereotypes comes in. In failing to speak against these actions, the university was complicit in them.

The President sent out a message yesterday condemning the action by the baseball player. It is not the end of the discussion--it is the beginning. The title of this petition says that the "University endorses the perpetuation of racial stereotypes" and that is not true. That would be like saying that because some of their students get drunk downtown and fight, it would be rediculus to say that the University endorses drunkeness and assault. The statement said that they couldn't talk about the discipline because of federal privacy laws--but not that there was no discipline. Inside scoop says that the player has been disciplined and pretty bad. Maybe we should stop focusing on getting our pound of flesh, and start focusing on having more conversations about how to better get along? I am not defending the player--what he did was disgusting--but let's not let this get to a point like Missouri--UWG is better than that.

These petitions do NOTHING! This issue was addressed by the president who made it clear that the student's punishment was protected by law. I agree that the student showed a lack of education and judgement, but if you all pay attention to the statements released instead of funnelling your anger through a source that will not change anything, you will find the answers you're looking for.

So we actually allow minstrel shows at a school which has a large black population? We're actually progressive in that we have a large amount of black people receiving degrees and getting a higher education, but we allow our white students to create an unsafe environment for them? Fuck that noise.

The student/athlete should be suspended from the team immediately, and receive sensitivity counseling .

The student has failed to realize how offensive his actions are towards a community of people. If no action is taken to remove the student from the team it shows that this is okay. And it's not okay.
