We request the signing of this petition for the release restoration of status for Natalia Liapina, a fifty-five year old Virginia Beach language teacher. She was accused and found guilty by the bench trial for attempting to gain legal status in the United States by way of marriage fraud. Her American husband is in the Philippines, extremely sick and unable to help. Natallia Liapina is held without bail even though she has no criminal record and is not a flight risk due to the fact that her passport was confiscated by the immigration agencies. Prior to her trial, she was released on bail for eight months and has a perfect record with her probation officer. Natalia Liapina started teaching Russian in Tallwood High School in 2006. She is a teacher in The Distance Learning Program and started with around 30 students in her class. By the end of the 2011 school year, Natalia had over 100 students in her class. At the beginning of this investigation, she was suspended from her job, leaving her with very limited ways to support herself. Since her incarceration, her house has gone into foreclosure, leaving her son Ivan, a 2012 Honor graduate from James Madison University, homeless. She is a committed taxpayer, as well as a loving mother, trying to live and American dream who does not deserve these charges. Please sign this petition to help Natalia Liapina be released from jail and returned to her status in the community. She is a valuable asset to our community and we want her back.
