Over the past few years, an increasing number of leaf vacuum trucks, operated by independent landscapers, have invaded our Montclair neighborhoods. They clog the narrower roads, make a tremendous amount of noise, and – worst of all – spew a tremendous amount of smoke and carbon monoxide into the air while operating.
Some of these trucks are worse than others, but it is clear that they are not regulated at all in terms of emissions while in operation. We, the undersigned, ask the township to regulate these noisy polluters by banning or regulating them and to enforce these regulations wherever possible.
(I will appear before the city council to ask its members to act on this at the next Township Council meeting.)

The momentum behind this petition is undeniable and the township council can no longer pretend this is just a minor annoyance. These landscapers are choking our streets with exhaust and we are finished waiting for the city to pay attention.

As an asthmatic, I have had to turn around and go in the other direction when encountering these trucks. My lungs would not take walking through that.
I am from Glen Ridge and have the same issues. Not only the exhaust, blockage of narrow streets but the incessant noise makes it difficult to concentrate in your own home.
As an asthmatic, this effects my health.
I totally agree with this petition. It has become overwhelming in the last few years. We do NOT enforce what regulations we have.
There has to be a better way.

It is true that these trucks are hazards in the roads and to the air quality. The assault on leaves is out of control. Let them fertilize the ground the way nature intended. It's landscapers that convince homeowners they need this and it is ridiculous.
