As many of you know, the Village of Poquott has long expressed serious concerns regarding the operations of Asphalt Supply of Long Island— particularly the petrochemical odors and the potential health impacts on our community. Since 2019, the Village administration has worked on your behalf, engaging with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), state representatives, and Asphalt Supply directly to demand stronger oversight, increased testing, and meaningful modifications to protect the health and quality of life of our residents.

Thanks to your vigilance in documenting and reporting these issues, we have already achieved important progress, including the installation of a new filtration system, comprehensive DEC assessments, and ongoing monitoring efforts.

We have recently been informed that Asphalt Supply of Long Island has applied for a renewal of its Air State Facility Permit. This presents us with a critical opportunity to insist on stronger safeguards. The Village has prepared a [formal letter](https://villageofpoquott.com/LETTER_ASLI.pdf), which will be submitted next week, calling for the suspension of the permit until our community’s concerns are fully addressed.

The draft letter may be reviewed here: [https://villageofpoquott.com/LETTER_ASLI.pdf

While the Village will submit this letter on behalf of all residents, your individual voices remain vital. To strengthen our position, we urge all residents—especially those who have raised concerns in the past or continue to be impacted—to sign this petition of support.

Your participation is essential. Together, we can ensure that our collective voice is heard and that the health, safety, and well-being of Poquott remain our top priority. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please feel free to reach me directly at [email protected].

Thank you, as always, for your support and commitment to our community.

The headaches in my house have been constant since they started operations. We cant even open our windows in the summer because the air is so heavy and gross.

My family’s health and well-being should never be put at risk by inadequate oversight.

My kiddy slide is covered with soot . It is black. I can't believe we are inhaling and smelling this oil, in what is supposed to be clean and healthy long Island.

The chemicals released into the environment are a serious health concern. Our children deserve clean air.

The science is clear: petrochemical emissions accelerate climate change and endanger health, increasing risks of respiratory and other diseases.

The smell is terrible and causes nasal issues- very unfair to have to deal with this ongoing issue
