Help us save a family. According to City records there are over 1700+ homeless in District 7 in the City of San Jose living outdoors without a place to lay their head at night. The Tully Road Library is home to hundreds of homeless women, families and individuals living along the creek which currently use the Library parking lot 7 days a week each morning for food and clothing. Newly elected D7 Councilmember Maya Esparza's previous job was working to end homelessness with Destination Home, a homeless advocacy group. We are asking the new councilmember to support her constituents and to not turn her back on the very residents and platform she used to get her elected to public office. Re-Open Tully Road Library Homeless Overnight Warming Center so at least some of the most vulnerable may sleep indoors during these cold dangerous winter months. This petition will be circulated to all neighborhood NACS, residents, and business owners, City of San Jose councilmembers & Mayor, county supervisors, assemblymembers, senators, congressman, and public officials at the City of San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and the Governor for support. The stormy weather is about to arrive so show us you have heart and compassion for the less fortunate.

I spent this morning walking along the creek and seeing the same families shivering in the damp air that I see every single day. My meetings with local officials are slow moving but I refuse to let them ignore the reality of what is happening in our own parking lot.

Seeing this momentum grow humbles me because I see the people living by the creek every single day. Their faces are the reason I started this and knowing I am not fighting alone gives me so much hope for the coming weeks.

I am conflicted about opening a center that requires paid staffing and services like showers. There are many factors to consider besides just opening a space. Who will supervise these people if there is a disturbance?
This is a matter of life and death for some. Please open the Tully facility during the brutally cold winter nights
Thank you David for your continuing help fir these unfortunate people. We need to help lift them up and get them back on their feet. Not sweep them under a rug.
Bascom Library & Community Center has been selected instead of Tully, despite being far less convenient to as many unhoused people as Tully would be. Bascom is also located poorly for transit to get to and from the OWL at the hours it opens and closes. There are only two showers in the rec center, and no plans to bring the Dignity on Wheels mobile showers. Please open Tully instead of Bascom (or both if you can get more funding).
There needs to be a warming station in every District and the Council representative needs to fund them...

In all the talk of liability, I have to keep asking, who is liable for those who die or have their lives severely compromised by life on the streets.
