PETITION FOR THE REMOVAL OF
ILLEGALLY PARKED TAXIS AND POLICING FOR THE PREVENTION OF THE FORMATION OF
ILLEGAL TAXI RANKS ON THE CORNERS OF: HENDRIK POTGIETER AND PETER ROAD, VAN DER
KLOOF ROAD, VAN STADEN ROAD AND ON THE CORNER OF JOHN VOSTER ROAD AND AMPLIFIER
STREET
We, the residents of Ward 97 and Johannesburg, hereby petition the City of Johannesburg to immediately remove the illegally parked taxis at the above mentioned intersections and to ensure that the formation of illegal and informal taxi ranks be policed pro-actively to prevent such formation. The uncontrolled congregation of taxis at these intersections causes dangerous interference with traffic in that visibility is affected and unexpected sudden braking or turning contribute to accidents. Residents are also concerned about violence perpetrated by rival companies, especially in light of recent shootings and the killing of drivers in the area. Health and hygiene is also compromised in that there are many drivers and passengers congregated at such ranks, while the absence of infrastructure means there are no ablution facilities. We therefore petition the City of Johannesburg to take control of this situation and to ensure that these taxis and ranks are immediate removed and that pro-active policing be introduced to the area.
The signatories hereto
mandate City Councillor, Jaco Engelbrecht, to be the petition organiser and
submit this petition on our behalf.
The smell is absolutely disgusting at the corner of Amplifier St. Nobody should have to live next to an open toilet because the city cant be bothered to enforce the law.
