JDS Purim Shpiel
The JDS 5th grade Purim Shpiel has been cancelled, at least in its current form, for this year. It has long been a great opportunity for JDS students to learn teamwork, script design, character developement, set design and public speaking. We would like to continue this JDS tradition because many students have been looking forward to the Purim Shpiel since they joined JDS. Also, everyone enjoys the suspense and laugh-out-loud funniness of it. Most of the middle school and a few teachers have already signed our petition, totaling over 100 signatures.
The Shpiel has not been completely cancelled, but diminished so significantly that much of its value will be lost. Our teachers believe that we should take an inquiry approach to it. We are concerned about this because the inquiry cycle typically allots only one to two weeks to work on the final project. (The amount of time spent on the Purim Shpiel is usually well over a month.) Also, by the time we are done with the other parts of our unit, Purim will be long gone. Please add your name to the list to continue this JDS tradition!
