Commercial vehicles using unrestricted parking along Gartons Way and Chatfield Road are taking parking spaces away from local residents.

Introducing Controlled Parking Zones on Gartons Way and Chatfield Road would prevent companies from parking commercial vehicles on these streets and provide additional car parking for visitors/residents.

We the undersigned ask that Wandsworth Council introduce Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) on Gartons Way and Chatfield Road.

Cllr Melanie Hampton, Cllr Rhodri Morgan & Charles Pitt – On behalf of St Mary’s Park Conservatives

The volume of support for this proposal indicates clear consensus among residents regarding the parking situation. I am currently coordinating a meeting with the transport department to formally register our request for a Controlled Parking Zone.

I am not a lease holder but a regular visitor to the area and find it impossible to find parking either free or on a meter. The whole area is full of commercial vehicles and sometimes double parking. A fire engine had to mount the pavement to get past a double parked car when I was there last week.

We recently had a 90 year old visiting us who could not park anywhere in the area as all spaces were taken up by commercial vehicles which had not moved all weekend.

Currently it is impossible for me to park, even though I live at plantation wharf as the van I drive doesn’t fit in the underground parking. All spaces are taken by the building works or works vehicles

The vehicles parking on our road are very large and it is difficult drive through on most days. Particularly around the dangerous Gartons Way corner which really needs mirrors so that you can see if there is a car coming towards you around the corner.

I'm so glad someone has raised this petition because it's something I feel very strongly about especially when at week-ends all you see are rows of commercial vehicles which are replaced by the drivers' personal cars during the week to hold the spaces. It's outrageous

Agree with proposal to restrict commercial vehicles, but...won’t this simply have the effect of pushing them into someone else’s ‘back yard’ and reinventing the issue there?

The abuse of parking around this area has been rife for many years and getting worse. Companies thinking they own the space, dangerous parking and dangerous driving meaning it’s impossible to see around big lorries on corners and company drivers forcing residents to reverse or wait for them to finish their ‘important business’. No spaces available for people visiting the medical centre. Residents must be put first.
