Hutchison are preparing to submit a planning application for a 20 metre-high monopole mast for 5G and 4 equipment cabinets and development works ancillary thereto on the corner of Margaret Road and Quarry High Street.

Friends of Quarry are concerned about the visual impact of the mast on a key entrance to the Quarry. We are exploring what opportunities there are for Friends of Quarry and Residents to oppose the current positioning.

If you agree the the current position is not suitable, please sign the petition. If you have any comments and, in particular, if you have a proposal for an alternative location a short distance from this one, please use the comments box for that.

I really did not think we would see this kind of energy so quickly when I first typed this up at the kitchen table. It is actually wild to imagine all of us staring at the same corner of the road and seeing the exact same eyesore that needs to be moved somewhere else entirely.

While I welcome the provision of 5G services in the Quarry, the location itself is not appropriate due to the visual impact on a key entrance to the Conservation Area. Other locations that have significantly less impact are available within 100m of the proposed site - these should be explored

The mast is far, far too high for its proposed position in the residential community. It will easily be twice the height of any nearby trees or buildings. The mast is also right next to (within 30m) a nursery, after school club and playground, as well as close to another nursery and primary school of 640 pupils. It’s position could not be placed better for maximum exposure to children.

This would be a real intrusion on a particularly pleasant wooded corner as one walks round the edge of Quarry Hollow Park. Why not up by the ring-road outside the Conservation Area? There must be some controls over what can be constructed in one.

Quarry is a conservation area so this isn’t a question of being a NIMBY. I needed planning permission to prune a tree and to have a front wall repaired and they both had to fit into the character of Quarry. A very tall phone mast cannot possibly fit into the character of the area.

could something be attached to the top of the church tower in Quarry? This is specified as an option in the planning guidelines (so long as it was tasteful and unobtrusive this would make use of an existing tall structure without needing the enormous pole).

The flats on that corner are already an eyesore - please do not add to the disfigurement of the entrance to Quarry High Street/Quarry.
