This petition effectively exists to protest the announcement that computer science principles is no longer a GPA weighed class and allows students to exercise the power of a united student body

Computer Science Principles is an engaging and rigorous course that also offers the option of AP Testing. Removing the GPA aspect from the comp sci curriculum undermines the time and effort we have put into the field of computing, and limits motivation to learn. This short and sudden, unexpected notice remains detrimental, for those who had registered for the class thinking it was GPA weighed.

We are approaching two hundred and fifty signatures and the administration is beginning to pay attention to our movement. Please push this out to your classmates right now so we have the strongest possible leverage for our next meeting.

I have been hearing from so many of you who feel blindsided by this change just like I do. Your frustration confirms that this course represents real academic rigor that deserves to be recognized properly.

The students have put in a good amount of effort into this class. It is unfair that the rules are being changed in the middle of the year, so if there are any such plans kindly put them in place next year.

It's ridiculous to offer a class that has an AP test but not have the class weighted as an AP class for GPA calculation, and it's unfair to change the designation mid-year.

An AP course should be counted towards weighted GPA as an advanced course, like any other AP courses are. RRISD should review its list of weighted GPA courses and correct the mistake instead of penalizing those students who have been working so hard.

Having this as GPA weighted class is a way to encourage kids to take Compsci seriously. In today's world CompScience is becoming a core subject similar to Math, Physics etc.

Many of us specifically asked our teachers/counselors and were told it is WEIGHTED. After being told it is, it's really unfair that it doesn't get counted toward our GPA especially since this is by no means an easy class.

Computer Science is my favorite class, and it's definitely a harder course. Remove the validity of the course as an advanced course, and you lose a lot of kids aspirations. Why study for computer science when it isn't a GPA boosted class?
