The eThekwini Municipality has formally announced the cancellation of the proposed relocation plan to Lower Illovo. This result ensures that our community remains protected from an influx of unmanaged social issues. I appreciate the dedication shown by everyone who maintained focus on this goal.

Local residents note with concern that the eThekwini Municipality wants to relocate drug addicts and vagrants from the Durban CBD to Lower Illovo.

This action is wrong and needs to be stopped :

  • These individuals may resort to crime in our area to fund their habits and needs.
  • We are a small community with limited resources and an already overworked SAP .
  • We do not have the capacity to cope with additional crime.
  • These people need help. Relocating them will not solve the problem.
  • People don’t take kindly to relocation as our history has shown and will eventually find their way back to Durban . This will be another waste of rate payers money.
  • If the addicts move, so will their suppliers. We don't need our children exposed to drugs.
  • This does not have the support of the local rate payers and voter. We have not been consulted.

We call on eThekwini to properly help these people and solve these problems in Durban and not relocate them to our community.http://southcoastsun.co.za/72735/e09vagrants/

The momentum behind this petition is increasing as we approach the threshold of one thousand signatures. Please encourage your neighbors to sign this document so we can present a unified position to the municipality.

I have been reviewing the feedback from residents and the concerns regarding our local resources are being expressed clearly. Our current focus is coordinating with local representatives to ensure that our opposition is formally documented and addressed by the municipality.

I cannot stress enough how damaging this will be to the residents of the south Coast...The crime and drugs that will now enter the streets and influence children...If the problem is in Durban why not try solve it why try to spread the problem all over

What about bringing these druggies and thief's to where we pay for our storage. Who will deal with 800 of these people if they hungry they'll steal. Where are the added manpower and SAPS vicheals going to come from to protect us as citizens?

We already have problems with homeless people from our area as well as the informal settlements with electricity and water problems. Ours is already a frail infrastructure. Adding more people to this already failing infrastructure is not good for the arear

Sewerage and water supply is already a big problem.in this area......moving a lot of people here will Def have the situation worsen....not a well thought idea....move them to another place where the infrastructure will be able to accommodate them

Ethekwini Municipality must just rehabilitate these people where they are."Don't abdicate your responsibility by moving these people around to look as if you've solved this huge drug problem you haven't.We don't want drug addicts in our area, period.

Our police force is already over worked and as residents we pay for a private crime prevention incentive, formed to assist the resident Tax Payers of Amanzimtoti. Why should we be burdened with extra problems when we are already over burdened.
