The Arizona Interscholastic Association Legislative Council is proposing to take your voice away from decisions facing student fairness, your fiduciary responsibility, and athletics in the State of Arizona. We are asking the Council and the Executive Board to engage in a transparent governance study to make representation fair for all Arizona students.

I really thought this might just fizzle out but the momentum is actually kind of overwhelming right now and it reminds me that people care deeply about how these decisions get made. It feels like we are finally starting to rattle some cages which is exactly where we need to be because the status quo simply cannot continue.

I think the Leg. council and Exec, committee should expand but still include ASBA district board members. I like the idea of athletic directors being on the committee. However, school board members should remain an active part of the association. Board members represent parents and communities. Their concerns about their students should be allowed.

This could break up the AIA or cause a rift in this State. Publicly elected school board members MUST RETAIN THEIR VOICE ON THE AIA. They are responsible to the voters, not hired school staff.

This proposal is the antithesis of fairness, a cornerstone of athletics, and does nothing to serve or support Arizona students. As a governing board member for Paradise Valley Unified School District, add my voice against those who would silence it at AIA.

As Gilbert Public Schools Board Clerk, I am responsible to my constituents for the safety of students and the careful use of taxpayers' money. The ASBA must remain on the AIA Legislative Council as the voice for school board members in school sports.

Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District #9 School Board Member and past president I am opposed the proposition to eliminate ASBA involvement. The ASBA is the voice of the districts on AIA who cannot attend meetings and which needs to be heard. AIA needs to be transparent and these amendments cloud the process.

At a time when transparency at all levels of school administration is pivotal, it appears ill advised to eliminate the participation of School Board members on the AIA Legislative Council. AIA has some image issues in the state....this will only exacerbate those image issues. Eliminating elected School Board members will not help students.

I oppose the changes that the Az Interscholastic assoc. Legislative Council is proposing. It weakens local control of our schools when we need to working toward strengthening local control.

I support equal representation across the state of AZ on behalf of all students and schools no matter how small and rural.
